SvR '09 is a good installment in the SvR series, but that's only true depending on what you want out of the game. If you want a good, solid fighting game to play with your friends, then the game is wonderful. If you enjoy unlocking things, and don't particularly mind getting storylines with only a small handful of wrestlers, then again, it's a very good game.
If you're like me, however, and enjoy creating a wrestler and dominating the WWE roster, this game is something of a disappointment. The storyline modes, which were quite a bit of fun in previous installments, are now limited to one of five wrestlers. And the advertised "First ever co-op Tag Team storyline" is only true if you want to play as Batista and Rey Mysterio.
The create-a-finisher mode is actually very good for a first attempt. It leaves some things to be desired, but it is fun to toy about with possibilities. The removal of fighting styles in favor of special abilities was inspired, in that it allowed for a much more specific wrestler to be created. However, instead of allowing you to choose what special abilities to assign your wrestler, you must earn the ability. And they don't tell you how to earn the ability during play, you must simply play through 'career mode' (little more than a a straight series of matches) and hope you happen upon the ones you want. And unfortunately, once your created wrestler has earned an ability, you're stuck with it. You can not remove an ability in favor of a different one.
All in all, the game is fantastically average. It caters more to those fans who want to play as the Superstars, and less to the fans who want to create their own wrestler. And in the end, the Create a Wrestler fans got gipped. That's just my opinion, however, and I could be wrong.
Pro's: good graphics, create a finisher (good idea), the create a character got way better, They added the classic one time only in the WWE inferno match; the road to wrestlemania good idea. the career mode and getting awards and not being able to pick your own ability except knowing how to get them and things. tag team action rocked the house down brought back the backstage brawls and locker room addition Con's: they took out the buried alive match (I favored that match) the road to wrestlemania had 7 character two of the characters were 1 story line. after 5 years of the parking lot brawl and I hated that.
I have to say that I had high hopes for this game but.... Needless to say that the career mode is less than what it has been in the past. I however did enjoy the new control system, and also the CAW as well.
