Viva pinata is just amazing. I would say its pretty much a simulation game. I dont even remember how this game came into my possession to be honest. I sold it a while back and wish I never had. But here is the whole idea. You get your own little plot of land. Clean it up, make it look nice and pretty. Smash trash into nonexistence with your trusty shovel. Tenderize the ground (beat it with your shovel like a madman). And plant (instant) grass seed. You will soon attract your first pinata breed and you will be well on your way. Once you get farther into the game you will be able to make ponds to attract water pinata, and plant flowers and stuff like that. Different things attract different pinata and the number of pinata is seemingly endless. Like if you have a certain amount of grass in your garden you will attract the first pinata called a Whirlm. But some pinata need to eat certain residents of your garden to become a resident. It will be hard to let go of your pinata if you think its really cute but you will most likely attract more so dont worry. You can buy seeds and build homes for your pinata so they dont have to sleep outside like hobos. You can even watch them in their home while they sleep, and im being serious you really can. If you have more than one type of pinata you can actually start your own pinata family! So it is definitely a great single player experience! I think you should just buy it because you will be hooked for a while if you like simulation games. You won't regret getting this game!

Weak

Odd concept and very repetitive

Well as a fan of simulation games like rollercoaster tycoon and sim city I thought I might like this cartoony simulation game. Unfortunately it was just too weird.

As others have said, the game suffers from a target audience identity problem. While the gameplay concept is too simple and repetitive for adult gamers, it's also to difficult to learn how to be successful at the game for young children.

Within a couple hours I amassed probably 35 or 40 different types of pinata species in my tiny little garden and actually maxed the population out. I was forced to sell some of them to make room for the new ones. One thing I dont get though it who in the right mind would throw a party and want a pinata of a worm or spider? And since when do pinatas inhabit gardens based on food supply? This game is just such a strange concept. Unfortunately, that's about the extent of the game: planting seeds, watering, seeing what requirements are needed for more pinatas and breeding them with rated PG "romance dance".

The bright point of this game is that it was fun to play with my 3 year old because he liked the little cut scenes when a new pinata came. That fun lasted for about 2 solid hours until I couldn't stand it anymore and he lost interest. At that point their were just too many species and it seemed like every 2 minutes I was getting a new one and seemed like that was all the game really had to offer.

Overall, I think the average gamer will enjoy somewhere between 1 to 4 hours of entertainment before they get bored of this title. If you are looking for something different that you can play for an evening with your young kids, it might be worth a gamefly rent, but you'll likely be popping it back in the mail the same day. Not one to buy.

This game was fun for the whole family ages 3 through 31. We all loved thinking through the gardening and luring of pinatas. It was so much fun we bought it for our 5 year olds birthday.
