Overall i personally thought that Virtua Tennis was a great game. It was that kind of game that you can really get into. Unfortunately there were some things that annoyed me about the game. I thought that the graphics to the characters were mildly good. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay during the match was very realistic off line but on line over xbox live was a bit scratchy. What i didnt like the most about the game was the achievements. I am a freak when it comes to getting achievements and im sure that i am not the only one but these achievements just seemed to take way too long and i didnt like that. Other than that the characterization of the character was very limited in my eyes and i thought it could use an upgrade in that department. But, overall i thought it was a pretty good game, with me giving it a rating of a 7 out of 10.
if you're not going to make it at least decent? I would assume the Sega people at least played it once, and noticed the terrible graphics (really, comparable to N64). I had this in my Q and was mistakenly confusing it for a new version of the awesome TopSpin. 1 day rental, sent back, if you want a tennis game go with that. Please don't buy or rent this, hopefully a total failure for this game will help them to learn their lesson.
Man I remember playing the original VT on the arcade and wasting so much $1 bills on it. The game was so fluid and the graphics at the time were insane. The home ports on the PS2 were decent and the wacky mini-game training always broke up the monotony.
But this one on the Xbox 360 is plain bad. It has fallen off and Top Spin is the new king. Can't see much I do like about the game except for the decent min-games and career mode, but when you get into the game, ugh... it's awful.
Graphics are horrible as if they were ported FROM the PS2. I keep scratching my head thinking "really Sega? this is a Xbox 360 game?" The gameplay is pretty sketchy, the opponent is unbelievably fast going from sideline to sideline hitting desperation shots, this making winning a single point a 5 minute affair. The fluidity of the game is poor. Ball boys have too animations, sitting and standing, as if someone forgot to fill in the rest of the motions in the flip book.
Overall I rate it a 4, decent mini-games and a good career mode. Get into the game and then we're in trouble.
