Summary: Viewtiful Joe is a surprisingly good game, once you get used to it. The movie references are hilarious (if you understand them) and combat is quite refreshing. Lack of subtitles for bosses makes hearing them kinda difficult, but its no biggie. Very good game.

Graphics: By today's standard, obsolete, but the use of cel-shading to make it feel almost like a comic book was nice. The backgrounds were still shots, almost like paper cut-outs, which gave it a retro, if outdated, look.

Sound: The music is very fitting for this game, almost like a mix between pop, rap, and punk. However, this is where one of the games flaws lies. At the start of every challenge, the same voice says "Just GO FOR IT!!" After a while, this becomes so straining to your ears that you can't hear it anymore.

Gameplay--Combat: Very fun. You only have 2 combat buttons, punch and kick- back to the olden days, eh? But there are tons of combos which you can string together using these two buttons-and they always feel new each time. The incorporation of movie FX (such as slow-mo, speed up, and zoom in) give combat an added flair, as well as a puzzle element. The dodging sequences of the game also add another level to combat. When an enemy attacks, its either a high attack or a low attack, and you have dodge buttons accordingly.

Gameplay--Puzzles: One word. Nightmarish. If you don't know what to do, you'll be stuck- a lot. However, this weeds out the weak gamers out there.

Gameplay--Bosses: OH DEAR GOD. These are like puzzles. If you don't know what to do, prepare to die... a lot. Over and over again.

Difficulty-- Very hard. I mean, there's a normal mode, and even THAT is brutal. ("Kids" is easy (no content is missing, btw) and "Adults" is normal.)

Overall: Play this game. Its hilarious movie references, good combat, and Japanese style make this a game you don't want to miss.

Henshin a go-go, baby!

This game would be even more fun if you didn't have to start way back in the level when you die. Other than that, it is a very entertaining game.
