Not what I expected

I'd love to write that it was a pleasant surprise but, going into this game I had in my head that it was going to be an emotionally charged mature story. Well, on playing it I found that the story is bland and very 2-d. It offers very little twists and turns. so the story lacked substance for me. It was also full of corny lame things that were quirky and fun at times. The game play is very, new not a lot of games have the same game play. It does wear thin though and it feels unfulfillable after a couple of battles. Art style is nice but, it didn't blow me away. it's cell-shading people we've had it on ps2 and I still think viewtiful joe is the premiere title in that title. I'd call it a rental at the most.

Very Good

Could Have Been Better...

Most aspects of this game hit the mark.

I think the graphics came out exactly as intended, comic book/anime style with bright colors and detailed designs.

The music is grade A and the story was very intriguing (could have done without the winged pig though).

The story progression however was annoying having to click through each episode in a chapter when they could have just as easily continued on to the next episode.

I understand this is part RTS, part turn-based strategy and part RPG, but the level progression was really kind of lame. Each class gains levels which increases HP, DEF, etc. but there is nothing else really noticeable between higher level classes and lower level since the enemies level up at pretty much the same rate. The troopers and scouts get an extra ability each at a certain level but I would've liked to see more.

I'm more of an RPG fan so I like to see my characters develop newer, better abilities as they level. And I really got bored with the fact that the best way to beat most of the missions was to run up to the enemy as fast and as close as you can so you can shoot them in the head and move on.

Overall, I thought this was a great game and would recommend it to anyone who likes turn-based strategy mixed with a little RTS but if you're looking for RPG, this games only mildly satisfies.

This is what you call a sleeper hit

Sega knocked this one out of the park. This game was already out in Japan 6 months prior to the American release and their reviews on play-asia were great. So I was expecting it to be good.

Turns out it was much better than i expected. I've always loved strategy rpg's. And who doesnt love action. Combining both worked out great.

The canvas art style is also a nice treat as opposed to games always going for the photo real look.

If your an RPG fan and dont buy this game (I did) make sure you make it a point to rent this game and enjoy a great next gen rpg experience.
