If you are like me and bought a PS3 partially because of the great selection of RPGs traditionally associated with the Playstation brand, this game will finally validate your purchase (at least a little). I have always wondered what would happen if turn based SRPGs threw away the grid and allowed for free movement and Valkyria Chronicles is even better than I imagined it could be. The art is simply beautiful. If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out some videos of this game, because to see it in motion is like watching a 3d anime. The game itself will challenge you, but it's not impossibly difficult. The story is enough to keep your interest, on par with a good anime story. When you look at each piece of VC, it seems like a really good game, but when you put them all together you get such a great experience that it's a must play for anyone with a PS3.
Eh, this game was just alright...barely. It can get addicting which is why i gave it a 6. The storyline sucks, The character development is EXTREMELY poor. There are some super corny moments. At times I felt I was playing a game for a pre-teen. Disappointing to say the least. Gameplay somewhat saved this game. Good usage of a strategy platform that hasn't really been used before. I'd pass.
This is my first review, because usually I'm too lazy to write one. I always think people will know about it if it's great. But for Valkyria Chronicle, I really need to speak up for them. It's such a great strategy game, extremely nice art style, balanced yet addicting game play. The only reason this game isn't a big hit is due to the lack of marketing. But in terms of quality, it totally raise the bar for all the other RPG game out there. Square, I think it's time for you to be innovative.
