Basketball - you take a ball and shoot or dunk it into the basket.
Wait, I know there's much more to it than that, but in Ultimate Hoops Challenge, all you are asked to do is shoot the ball into the basket or dunk the ball into the basket.
That’s right, there is only two - count them - two games in this collection. They tweak the rules a bit in order to create more so called games - that add nothing to the mix.
The first deals with the dunking part. Here you will pick your dunk, then wait for the game to prompt you to wave the Wiimote in a certain direction. Then, you wave as you are told, and repeat it a few times.
Then you go to the next dunk and repeat the process over again (and again and…)
Sometimes the game will not even show your player dunking the ball into the basket (you’ll just have to use your imagination)
But that’s better than the atrocious shooting mechanism that makes up the shooting half of the game. It is woefully inaccurate, and I’ve never seen any NBA player shoot this badly.
And if you are ignorant enough to play any game versus the AI players, then you will have to sit and watch the AI take their turns. Boring.
Adding to the lack of joy is the announcer who keeps saying the same tiring lines over and over again. In one instance, he says the same line four times in a row. I just wanted him to shut up.
So what unlockables are there for playing? There are different arenas, different dunks, and that’s about it. The graphics are so bad that I could not recognize any of these legendary players; players who deserve a much better game than this horrendous offering. I say either wait for NBA Jam or go out and play the game for real.
Ultimate Hoops Challenge is a strong candidate for my list of WORST WII GAMES OF 2010.
