What a BEAUTIFUL update to a fun game! It is kinda hard, but it's really fun. One of the best games I have played on the psp. MUST BUY!

This game is a great throw back to the days of platforming, but great to play for newcomers as well. For you purists out there, the progress map is intact just like in the NES days and so is the music (remixed to "ultimate" levels, of course). The beloved dagger returns (along with the lance) and new weapons as well (a thorn whip that can grab stuff, a homing missile, crossbow, etc.) These new weapons are great as there is strategy in using these as well. You can also collect different armor, magic (basically area effect weapons) and shields.
The graphics are among the best I have seen on the PSP (or PS2 for that matter!). Particle effects, translucence, it's all there. Kudos Capcom!
However, I did have a couple of issues...
This is a difficult game to play (even on "normal" mode). Good thing your armor takes some of the hits (yes, he will run around in boxers again) and have multiple lives. You'll be going through them pretty often. If not, there's always "Continue"...
The A.I. can be a little cheap (those red star devils can shoot you off-screen and appear from no where).
Jumping (even double-jumping) takes a bit getting used to as it feels looser than expected (e.g. Castlevania).
It would have been nice if Capcom included extras like a behind-the-scenes look at making the game or a primer or the beasties you encounter (one again, like Castlevania). Oh well, this will tide me over until "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin".

If you where a fan of the originals, than there is no reason not to love this game. I got it the day it came out, and have not stopped playing it since. Yes, it is hard, but not impossible.
