Good

Great but short and repetitive

During my childhood Twisted Metal was one of my favorite games, I loved the first couple and have a lot of fond memories of the classic TM.

The game is very short, my friend and I played co-op story mode and beat it within a couple of hours. After I beat the story a couple of times I lost interest completely, the only other thing to do (since I'm not gonna pay to go online with it) is bot matches which gets old fast. I guess I'm too used to games that have a bit more depth.

This is a great rent, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.

THIS IS A GAME THAT IS SO VIOLENT AND HATEFUL TO WOMEN. THE WHOLE PREMISE IS YOU ARE TRYING TO WIN RACES BECAUSE YOU ARE A MASS MURDER WHO WANTS TO MURDER THE 1 GIRL WHO GOT AWAY. THE OPENING CUT SCENE IS A WOMEN WITH HER THROAT SLASHED OPEN. THIS IS A SICK GAME AND IT SHOULD BE MADE CLEAR HOW SICK IT IS BEFORE YOU RENT IT. ANYONE WHO ENJOYS PLAYING THIS GAME SHOULD SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP AND NO WOMEN SHOULD FEEL SAFE AROUND.- I AM A 42 YEAR OLD MAN.!

everything in the story is fine until you get to the last chapter where you have to do a stupid race with going off bridges and crashing into pillars the best part is the game designers probably laghing his beep off with all the tricks he can pull out of his beep hole

Overview
=================
I never played the original twisted metal games. This was pumped so much that I thought it was going to be great. For me it is just okay... Not a great rent either because online needs a pass...

EA really needs to go back to giving you at least 2-3 days of a preview pass.

Pros
=================
1) fairly fun car combat
2) decent looking game (although not great)
3) I'm sure nostalgic for those that played old games

Cons
=================
1) controls could have been better
2) no online play without a pass
3) campaign wasn't that interesting (story or action)
4) just wasn't great....

this game brought back good memories but thats it! the controls take way to long to master. the characters are limited and the specials are all dumbed down. its like they rushed the game. twisted metal black was and still is the best tm game ever made.

I have been waiting 6 years for a TM title on PS3, PSP got one on release and PS2 had one pretty quickly. If I have to wait 6 years for a major title like Twisted Metal (Or GT5 COUGH COUGH) then it had better be amazing! This leaves me wanting. I have heard people say "Stop whining about online passes" but they are $10 and that is something I consider when buying games. It's a cheap way around their policy of not charging for PSN... We'll just charge our customers $10 for every account they want to use past the 1st on their consoles... It's cheap and thus affects the ratings I give those games.

ASIDE from that Twisted Metal has bad AI, practically no story, the weapons are a disappointment, the levels are actually less complicated then before and don't have as many secret/hidden zones. I liked the general concept of the game, but I found myself thinking that ModNation would be more fun to play than Twisted Metal if I want my weaponized racing game fix...

Absolutely terrible rendition of the game. The control mapping is horrendous, and the race maps are hands down the most frustrating game mode of anything I've ever played.

I absolutely loved this game but there were some things that kinda didn't agree with me. I can't stand racing games where you have to reach a finish line. I got stuck on the second to the last Sweet Tooth Challenge and no matter how hard I tried, I could not progress past the battle races and I just got fed up with it. I personally think the battle races were a HUGE mistake. However, I loved the selection of weapons and vehicles. My favorite special weapons were Sweet Tooth's Laughing Ghost and the Juggernaut truck's mines. But if a sequel is made, I wish they would take out the battle races an just stick to the general vehicular combat. I suck at racing!

I loved Twisted Metal 1 and I loved Twisted Metal 2, and honestly didnt know there was a 3 & 4. i love Twisted metal black. They all had the familiar feeling but also brought something new to the table. Same can be said about the new Twisted Metal. Chaos as usual, but it has never looked this sweet. The controls are a mess as usual but thats what I love about it. So many control choices. Campaign on easiest difficulty is a challenge. The story is forgettable and (thank god) skippable. CARS WITH GUNS HAS NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN!

Lots of fun to play through the story but the multiplayer is where its at. Story is pretty short but offers some rewards for playing through it on higher difficulties and for earning gold medals. The story, however, is DAYUM hard on higher difficulties and can get a little frustrating.
The online and spltscreen portions of the game are awesome...The cars are well-balanced and the different game modes allow for different strategies and style of play. I will be honest and say that, at release, the servers were flatout shyt. The servers still give an occasional error but are much better than before and are being worked on to provide an optimal experience.
This game is a must have for any ps3 owner. The destructive chaos that ensues every match ensures a good time. The unlockables and leaderboards will give you something to work for and, along with the multiplayer and a dedicated community, will keep the game alive.

I was very excited to see a new Twisted Metal, because I loved the series. BUT, after I got this new one, it turned out to be completely ridiculous. For one, I looked at the controls, and my jaw dropped. I couldn't even think about memorizing them before I played. Two, the difficulty, even on the easiest setting, was outrageous. I would compare it to playing MW3 with one hand, because that's just about the damage you can do. I was getting ambushed and destroyed within SECONDS. I couldn't even find ammo before I was done for. And three, the way the weapons were operated was not helpful in any way, and also just a little too complicated.

Basic breakdown::: Don't get me wrong, it was cool and all, but it was the fact that it was hectic fast, way too difficult at the lowest level, and pretty confusing trying to find and fire weapons, especially when you need or want to use a certain one. This, all with really complicated controls. But hey, at least it looked awesome, ...right?

So have fun if you're up to it, but I would definitely rent it before you go out and buy it and end up with a controller inside you're TV.

A Solid Game, Destruction For All!!

Okay, first off, this game isn't really a 10, more like a 9, but these guys give it such a low rating!!

Unlike most Twisted Metals, you can pick a clown, a mr. grimm, a dollface, or a preacher, who can drive any car. The destruction is back and better than ever, destroying most buildings with ease, even by a motorcycle. The variety of specials and maps are amazing, appealing to all tastes. Sadly, the online component is rough, making getting into a game kinda difficult, but a couple minutes of trying and you're in. More online patches are on the way.

Sadly, the story has taken the biggest hit. While turning out a nifty little story, sadly you only play the stories of Sweet Tooth, Mr. Grimm, and Dollface. Preacher appears, but I'm still not sure why. He doesn't do much.

Overall, a very solid game, with lots of multiplayer replayability. You can even split screen with friends and take the action online at the same time!! A nifty feat in our day and age. Well worth the rent or buy, just don't pass this game up!!

MP is good and fun at first. Story isn't to much different, just AI bots coming at you. The AI tended to tick me off a lot so I stuck to MP mostly. Becomes repetitive pretty fast. It was fun while I had it, sending it back now. Enjoyed it.

I will say this right off the bat. What the heck? I give this game a 4/10. I just don't get the point? I mean it really doesn't deliver what I want. I don't know if that makes sense it just left me wanting more. Doesn't satisfy a original gamer of Twisted Metal. That is my review.

The need for an online pass makes it that I will not buy this game, just like EA games... The offline mode is OK, but short in story mode. In challenge mode, it is quite pointless. Had brief fun, but sent it back before the end of the story mode due to lack of interest...

How could you not love a game where you blow up other cars and reek havoc throughout a good handful of maps with a huge selection of weapons all to heavy metal music?

Gameplay:
Awesome. The multiplayer should take Call of Duty's spotlight as central online multiplayer game. Its incredibly addicting. The single player is definitely a challenge and the control scheme takes a minute to get used to. Give it an hour or two and you'll be hooked.

Graphics:
Its style is different. Dark live action cut scene are a welcomed addition. They have a visual style that gives the game a personality. The graphics of the actual gameplay are decent enough too. They're not on par with Uncharted, Battlefield, God of War or Rage but not many games really can say they are. The graphics are far from mediocre.

Story:
The low point of this game. Its story mode is only 2-3 hours long and the story isn't all that interesting (or prominent for that matter.) I haven't played the previous Twisted Metal games, but I wasn't really expecting much of a story from a game like this.

Pros:
+ Multiplayer
+ Soundtrack
+ Visual style

Cons:
- Story was weak
- Difficulty curb thins out this games audience

One minute they're showing sweeth tooth losing his right eye in a cut scene, suddenly he's without a left eye.. ? Then they show him with his right eye cut out? Are they dumb? Someone didn't pay attention.... At first it was fun but I just got to the level with the whole 'changing cage' thing, ABSOLUTELY FRUSTRATING. The cage changes every five seconds (the area you need to stay in, if not you lose health) and you have to rush to the other. You have a set amount of time to be out of the cage. If you exceed that time, your health goes down extremely fast. Gotta take a hardcore TM fan to love this.

I usually give games the benefit of doubt. Even if they appear not interesting at first, I try to put in the time to form an opinion. But this one I regretted as soon as I popped in the ps3. I was expecting a game like Carmageddon, but this was a mix of bad driving, terrible controls, nonsensical plot. I heard multiplayer is the meat o this title, but because of all this online pass nonsense, I dont have a chance to try it. I am mailing it back ASAP, so my Q is cleared for other games.

Lets start this off, right off the bat you are thrown into a mosh pit of a battle with and not knowing the controlls, no they dont show you in the options menu...no biggie I can learn buttons...but in this mosh pit you are the only target the AI's focus on, at first I thought naw, maybe Im not paying attention, by the third map, open area, I just sat there and all the AI's around me they would be 10 feet from each other, im like 100 yards away, they ignore each other and just focus on me, I wanted to break this $$%#%$!#$#!ing game from the start, I am so glad I didnt buy this at gamestop before renting, it will be a controller breaking game because its not based upon skill, its luck and killing the enemy cars one at a time...DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!! I miss being 12, when something like this would have been fun, I guess the times you remember should sometimes be left in the past. Plus with online pass being necessary for the game you can only rent 1/4 of the game. The campaign is boring and pointless, I don't know when Sweet tooth became the only face that matters but I also dont know when his truck could transform either so I missed a memo. The graphics in this game is sub par and the controls are awkward, especially when you want to back up. I cannot recommend this game to anyone even though it functions, not well but it functions.

The interface feels like it was ported over from PS1, very slow and not modern at all. I stopped playing the campaign after one mission where the "cage" moved and you had to stay in bounds, lame. Has some good moments when you are fighting with 3 bots in close quarters, but no long term value with quickplay mode. Didn't want to pay for multiplayer, so I didn't.

The original Twisted Metal was the reason I bought a Playstation and now several years later the new Twsted Metal has made me a very happy PS3 owner!! Yes the story mode has taken a hit and that I believe is my only complaint. Online is so much fun and full of mayhem. Yes I said it online is fun and I didn't have to pay for the pass. For ll you dummies that think you had to pay or think that online play is "locked out" turn you freakin instruction manual over and you will find the code for a free online pass! I laugh so hard when I saw some reviews of people saying they had to pay or couldn't get online LOL!!! Bottom line this game is awesome and is best enjoyed with friends split screen or online!!

So, people are getting frustrated with a few things? what a shock, people need something to complain about every day here, but i digress.

first up: game pass

you think that you would look up whether or not a game has a game pass before you rent it, what with everything having one nowadays, but no, some people are just really oblivious. and honestly, if you go out and just pick the game up, what a surprise, you won't have to worry about the game pass!

second: people complaining about the AI being too difficult.

to sum this up in a nutshell requires a semi-colon, a number, and five more words : twisted metal 2 twisted metal black

seriously though, go play those two games, and tell me that this one is harder than either of them.

Loving the game.
