I first encountered the film TRON on a VHS recording my engineer parents made off of a telvison broadcast in the latter part of the 1980s. Being a young punk kid who loved video games and computers, the twisted video game reality portrayed was all kinds of exciting, and I often declared it "my favorite movie."
Cut to twenty-odd years later, when technological revolutions and cinematic evolution make TRON look like what it is: a dated, not particularly subtle recasting of basically any fantasy "save the world" project ever written or filmed. I rented the DVD release of this movie when it came out, and all these years later the only reason this flick even warrants the 5-rating I gave it is straight nostalgia. If you don't have pleasant memories of watching decades-old "state of the art" computer graphics with your parents, skip this flick, as you won't particularly enjoy the ride.
