The irony of making a video game all about being trapped in a video game was not lost on me as I started playing Tron 2.0: Killer App. However, the fun must have gotten lost as I quickly lost interest and sent it back. While Tron 2.0 might have an original art style and some good presentation value, the gameplay is subpar compared to shooters on the same platform. First of all, it's too slow and cumbersome. Acquired armor and power upgrades are equipped through a menu, where you assign "subroutines" to "memory" after you've cleansed them of "viruses" that have "infected" the programs, after which you will "bang" your "head" against a "table." It's just way too much for far to little. Streamlining the process would have gone a long way to increasing the enjoyability of this game. It also takes an exorbitant amount of time to reload your game, which happens frequently as you will die many times. Enemies seem to have the uncanny ability to shoot you with deadly projectiles while you're strafing and, since your own weapons work so slowly, will leave you wondering why you're playing this game at all. I asked myself that very question and had no good answer, so I stopped. The story is uninspired, the characters bland and the controls jerky. If you really love Tron, keep watching the movie. The game will likely do nothing to enhance your appreciation for the franchise.
