Trace Memory is an interesting cross between innocence and maturity in a game. The anime-styled characters and their boundless optimism in the face of danger makes the game lighter than most dark rpgs on the market, and yet not tasting of bubble-gum.
The gameplay reminded me of some mid-late 90's RPGs, where scenes were investigated by selecting details of an overall picture, then zooming in on them. There were a number of puzzles, also reminiscent of earlier RPG's. The designers also utilized many of the extra features of the DS, including the open/shut design, and the microphone.
The game was very, very short. I completed it in just over 4 hours, and I'm notorious for wandering around too much. There is some replayability, but not a terrible amount. This was the only downside I could find in the game, but it was enough to have me sending it back instead of purchasing it.
