Terrible Use of Motion Controls

Tennis is simple. Swing early to aim left. Swing late to aim right. Swing down-to-up to create top spin, up-to-down to make a drop shot, and twist your raquet upwards to lob your shot high. This is simply - you play tennis with nothing more than your arm, wrist, and a pair of quick legs.

But Topspin 4 is anything but simple. First you have to use a nunchuck. Why would you need a second controller in this game?? Well, you use it to run around. So it replaces your legs. Well, okay - I'd have literally rather run around my living room, but fine - I can deal with it. But then you have to also use that nunchuck - the same stick - to aim your shot... Wait, what? You're supposed to use your raquet to do that. Also, you have to use the A and B buttons on the controller to create loft and drop shots. You're supposed to use your raquet for that too!! So instead of using a motion controller to control all your motions, you use it to do nothing but swing - and even that doesn't always work.

Skip this game entirely - it's absolutely no fun.

I love the game of tennis. Its not popular enough yet to get good games made though. Top Spin 4 control are a litle wierd at first but once you get used to it, you can do ok.

Pros -
Its tennis.
You can play in multiple tourneys.
You can play as or against some real tennis players.

Graphics on wii are bad for most games so no surprise here.
Not enough real life players.
Career plays really slow because of all the mini games you are forced to play. Should be optional.
Some of the music is really annoying

If you like tennis get this or the EA version. Both are fun to play. Tennis needs more attn to get better games

Lousy Game

I was very disappointed in this game. The graphics look like something from 10 years ago and the gameplay was pretty bad as well. I agree with others in that you should not have to use the numbchuck to steer your shot, it should be the motion of your swing that controls where the ball goes and with what type of spin. As an avid tennis player, this game does not make the cut. Try EA's tennis game from last year instead. A little cartoonish looking, but much better game play and also has online play.
