I got the game and was kinda excited, heard good things about it. Popped it in , played about an hour and sent it back. The character customization is very good, but the game play is way to slow for me. I know its tennis, and its boring anyway, but it could have been a better game.
This game in my opinion is TRASH! I read other people reviews and I thought I was the only person that thought this game was hard to play. It is very hard, you have to be good at this to enjoy it. I love top spin 2 but this one they could have kept!
The truthiness of this game is that it is really hard to master. You must go through Tennis School to learn the in's and out's of the game. Tennis school can take a few hours to complete. So you need patience to play this game.
This game thrives online. They have seasons, and you can play each event once during a season. Seasons are relatively short. You also get experience (40XP) even if you lose, which will help you if you are stating a new character. Which is more than what you'll get for winning a match at that time (10XP or 0 for losing) in career mode. OH, I forgot to mention you take your created player online and that's it. What's horrible about this is you can only level your character up to a 70. Needless to say just about every Pro is better than a 70 so you will always be playing at a disadvantage.
This game is all about timing, and with complicated controls can make this game quite frustrating to deal with. Especially when you attempt risk shots which often wind up in the net or knocked into another world.
Online, you will find 30 Overall players that will work your 70 overall character. It's hard to imagine that these people are fast enough to keep up with you smashes, or their shots consistant enough to use a risk shot to drive you all over the place, yet they do. I smell some fish on that. I did have one guy cheat on me, online. They played a game, somehow beat me in one game (3 games per set, 3 sets per game), he quit and won the match. When you quit a match, you automatically forfeit it to the opponent, regardless of score. Good news is, if someone quits on you before the match starts, you get a win plus the achievements. You can even get the win "X" many in a row achievements or make a Grand Slam final if people keep quiting on you.
This game is a tennis sim, and is really hard. Don't ever use the R-Analog to swing. Most will hate Tennis School, and don't want to relearn the game. My fun level was a 6 for this game.
