I went over to my bro's house the other day and he popped in Tony Hawk Shred into his PS3. Man, was i surprised! This get this clear first; i am no fan of skateboard games, partially because i suck at skateboarding (trust, you would laugh if you saw me attempt a kick-flip) But is that why i'm here? Nope. Read my review to find out!
Gameplay and Skateboard issues: Gameplay is technically the same as previous Tony Hawk games, but this time, wait for it... you actually get a real board! Yay! Too bad that skateboard set you need to play is not only at the price of what, 50? But what is really bad, WHERE CAN U FIND ONE? I have yet to detect one on the shelfs of various stores where i usually buy this sort of equipment! Try and order it online if you can.
Sound/Graphics: Really nothing different? Despite the fact Tony Hawk now has competition against Shaun White (showdown!), things haven't improved since the last time i slid in a Hawk game.
Storyline: Despite the fact me and my friend got really deep into this game, we failed to find a storyline amongst the nice layers of fun that blanket an ugly-on-the-inside videogame. But hey, he may have found something in the past few days? :itsalive!:
Controls: This is why i gave it an 8. You know why? Because i have rid a skateboard before. I know that expierience, feeling the weight being shifted constantly, and the fear of falling off. Tony Hawk: Shred brings that expierience (even if it is an unpleasant one for me...) and mashes it up into a fairly good game. The weight shifts and balancing are so very precise and realistic, i may have picked up a few tips for the next time i pull that old skateboard out of my cob-web infested garage...
Conclusion: I'm running out of time... In conclusion, this was a great game. GameFly doesn't provide the board needed to play, so you're better off looking for it in stores, although it is very unlikely you will find a copy, as mentioned in previous reviews... Cheers!
