Lara Croft has been a gaming icon since 1996, but she's never bee n a fully realized a character as she is is Crystal Dynamics reboot of the franchise. "Tomb Raider" is an amazing thrill ride from start to finish, beginning with a stunningly staged shipwreck that leads Lara on a harrowing path to survival. The game is beautiful to behold, with varied environments and detailed character models. Lara is much younger here, and Camilla Luddington's voice acting brings forth her vulnerability as well as her determination to aid her friends and remain alive in the face of incredible odds. The enemies are many, including deranged cultists, armed thugs, and nasty wolves. Combat is terrific and fun, allowing for you to choose how to dispatch your enemies. A bow and a climbing axe allow for silent kills, while a pistol, shotgun, and assault rifle make for your more standard shooter fare. The cover system works like a charm, and is easy to use. Cover is destructible, so firefights keep you on your toes and constantly moving. There's no auto aim, but it's never a chore to hit what you want. Platforming controls are outstanding as well, and it's a joy to traverse the terrain along cliffs, ropes, and building ledges. The voice acting is terrific for all characters, and the musical score provides a suitable background to the adventure. The story is well written, with Lara completing a believable arc from frightened girl to hardened warrior. Skill points are awarded throughout the game, allowing you to develop Lara along three skill sets: Survival, Hunter, and Brawler. Hunting, scavenging, exploring, and looting dead enemies gain you salvage, which can be used to upgrade your weapons. There are seven optional tombs to explore, and these provide a nice break from the tension filled storyline, as you only have a puzzle to solve without the threat of foes trying to kill you. I hit only a few very minor glitches in the game, and none detracted from the fun. This is a must play. 9.5/10
I had always been interested in Tomb Raider, I remember renting the original on PSOne, maybe trying the other ones here and there... but I could never get into them. Always found them a bit silly, and not to be taken seriously. I gave Underworld a decent go, definitely noticed a general improvement from the impression the game had received, but still didn't get too far before blowing it off as a less than stellar, generic TPS.
Then along game E3, and the trailer for the reboot and I was definitely interested. And lets just say, I was very very happy with my decision to play this game.
Playing it, I felt like "man, this game is short, I'm already half way through," not realizing that I was well past 10 hours into the game, and probably clocked in close to 30 just in the single player, to get 100% of course.
Admittedly, I didn't bother with the multiplayer. The single player is sweet enough on it's own. The multiplayer is just a pleasant addition that I'm sure is worth a look.
The game is just well made. Awesome progression in character development, weapon/skill upgrades, etc. Absolutely love it.
Graphics are good. Controls are good.
It's like... Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Uncharted and Last of Us all mixed together. And that's some good ingredients right there if you ask me.

Tomb Raider, we know about Lara Croft with her big pointy breasts and dual pistols. She's awesome, jumps like a ninja, not afraid of anything. She- oh who am I kidding. We get to see Lara broken down, both physically and mentally. She's ship wrecked on an island and all alone while trying to survive. I've only played a few hours into the game but I love it already, this is amazing.
The controls is pretty good and easy to use, graphics is looking good. I am playing on ps3 so can't say much more on that part but the story! Now story and gameplay is the huge thing for me, not graphics. So far the story is really interesting and very well written. I love the puzzles but sometimes I feel the small challenges in the game could have been something else. I mean gather this, gather that, shoot that. Sure, it's something else to do and hoping it will get better.
The voice acting. I really really enjoy the voice actress for Lara. She's getting into the character pretty good, more to an deeper level and actually being the character. Taking her for the voice of Lara was an good idea and have to say I really enjoy the other ones as well. This is a really well made game, it's amazing and I don't regret it one bit and hoping to see more from this series in the future.
