This game is definitely an experience that needs to be played all the way through. Everything about it was enjoyable. The only downer was getting used the to timing on hitting certain buttons during fights (but that is more of an user error than anything else). Definitely an experience worth going through!
How you start this game and how you finish this game are two different things. And what makes this game so good is the journey that Lara goes through from still-wet behind the ears student (who is just getting punished at the first of the game enough to make you cringe,) who becomes this butt kicking predator assassin. This game actually makes you feel for the girl's safety during the first 1/3 of the game and I haven't played too many games where you actually care if the character gets hurt. Its pretty amazing what they have done here. The story is top notch, the voice acting is top notch, platforming is top notch, and surprisingly the action is really top notch(I actually enjoyed it a bit more than Uncharted). One of the cool things about the combat is that it has this dynamic cover system that pretty much does the work for you. You don't have to duck behind cover because anytime enemies are around she instantly goes into combat mode while still allowing the free movement of game without a cover system. It will make better sense when you play but trust me, it works beautifully. I guess if there was anything that I could nitpick about would be that the some plot moments felt a little flat, toward the end. But like I said. Its only nitpicking. Play this game now.
The only thing I had a slight issue with was that the story was predictable once the girl was captured. I could from that point have written exactly what would happen next from a perspective of major plot points. A grown up story would be preferred at some point. See Walking Dead show or game... don't cater to the idiot, give us a tough story. See Bioshock Infinite as well.
The slightly cliche story aside, the art and history was well done. The action was great. The tombs which are the namesake of the game should be a lot more complex than a single obstacle. I want to spend an hour in a tomb, being forced to use to torch for light, getting lost, then having a great reval/reward.
The only other thing I could fault would be the fast progression from mostly-believable to complete-fantasy too quickly at the end. Don't show the paranormal outright, make us wonder if the bad guy's plan would have worked at all or if maybe he was just effing crazy.
This is a really solid game and I look forward to a sequel.
