Great for almost everyone

I really, really, really enjoy this game. I knew I would from the first video I saw of it. Also, Ubisoft (specifically the Montreal branch) is my favorite developer so I knew it was in the right hands. Well, lets get to the review then.

Graphics: Guns, characters, buildings, enemies, the Strip, shards of glass, and even knocked over poker chips look amazing. Xbox 360 games just keep getting better and better in this department. Despite popular conversations, I don't think the multiplayer graphics look bad at all. This game is full of delicious eye candy, but does it have good game play to back it up?

Gameplay: Probably the best part of the game. Issuing orders to your squad members via your headset works great and is almost always accurate. It is just that your vocabulary is limited and you will notice that you will be repeating yourself a lot. Doing all the interesting things like rappelling and fast roping is available with one press of the A button. Taking cover is also easy to access, because all that is required is pressing and holding the left trigger against a surface.

Design: I tend to favor gameplay the most, but just behind it is the way a game sets me up for the action by either a fantastic plot, or great design. Unfortunately, R6V has a paper-thin plot that is filled with many expected twists and turns. The main design is basically the opposite in that it takes tactical gaming and transforms it into an easy to learn, but at the same time challenging experience.

Value/Replayability: If you enjoy the single-player mode at all, then multiplayer will rock your world. Why not play the entire story mode co-op with up to 3 other people online? Or join 15 people in an intense terrorist hunt? Online is great fun and highly recommended. The single payer is also replayable in that there are multiple paths to take in all the levels.

Rent R6V no matter what. There's great fun to be had.

Historically, I've not been a big R6 fan. Seemed to have way more micro-management than I liked and my squad's AI seemed deficient as they seldom went where I wanted them to go. I'm also too lazy to plan out attacks in the depth needed for those games.

But then I tried the demo of this and adored it.

You start the game in Mexico, in an area that looks not too dissimilar to GRAW. But after that, you are sent to Las Vegas and the game REALLY comes into its own. Las Vegas is an inspired choice for this game, as a tactical shooter in a casino is a concept so brilliant I'm baffled nobody tried it before. Tons of hiding spots, tons of cover, and just some incredible visuals make this a great package.

In fact, I've seen online people saying the visuals weren't that hot. I'm not sure which game they were playing, but it could not have been this one. THIS title was stellar to look at and great to play. Controlling your squad is easy enough and they have enough sense to not get themselves killed quickly.

Co-op online gameplay is phenomenal. Me and my brother routinely play co-op terrorist hunt on the Calypso casino level and the amazing thing is that the enemies are not in the same spot twice and seldom take the same route or do the same thing. It makes every playthru both brutally difficult AND unique, which is all you can ask for.

You will not regret picking this game up. A true classic in every sense of the word. It is all you could want in a team-based shooter.

Reviewing and playing this in 2010 for the first time, I actually had a lot of fun playing this game. I thought Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was awesome, so I tried this one.

This genre redefined the typical shooter, making strategy and teamwork absolutely essential. You cannot just run from place to place like it's Call of Duty or Gears of War or something. You must use cover, and work with your 2 squad members to clear enemies, rooms, and the surrounding area.

Using the team, you can give them various button commands. The game is based around using these commands to make your 2 mates do various moves. Examples would be commanding them to move to a door, and clear the room while you sit back and relax. They can also breach a door and clear the room. You can have them in front of you the whole time while you pick off guys from the back. Also, you can command them to throw smoke and grenades.

Once you get the hang of the controls for this game, it becomes a lot of fun. There is a good sized learning curve here if you don't play TC games, or if you are a COD player. Once you memorize the buttons and commands, it's very smooth and fun to play.

Though frustrating at times, because you can't take barely any bullet hits, it forces you to think your way across the levels. Online play is still fun, though Vegas2 is better and has a mini-game mode.

If you are a fan of shooters, this is a must to add to the mix. Even though the graphics are poor since the game is old, it's still a ton of fun.
