TIme Splitters review

It seems that people forget that this is an old game, and review it next to some of the other shooter games that have come out already. Of course, compared to other shooters that have come out over the past 6 years, this game is not all that great. But, if you haven't played any of the newer shooters like me, this is an excellent game to start with (although I started with Darkwatch and Black.) The game goes all over the globe and time periods with you walking around and blasting anything that moves. For it's time, the graphics aren't too bad, the music sets the mood, and the controls are very responsive. The game shouldn't be picked up by FPS experts, but if you're wanting to get into the genre, this game is great for beginners.

I got this game because it was made by some of the people who made Goldeneye.

The graphics look like it was an N64 game they quickly decided to update to the PS2. The textures are very bad. Some of the music is good and some is mediocre. Also, 1-player mode has a total of 9 levels! I was also dissappointed with simplistic mission objective which is always one, "grab the goal item" and two, "bring it to the checkpoint". Done.

The game is still fun to play. You really have to keep on your toes and be careful how you approach areas. The level designs are interesting too. The multi-player mode has more levels, and there's a (simple) map maker.

Overall, a fun game, but you can't help feeling it's incomplete.

Now, the multiplayer rocks! You can make your own maps easily, and you can also set it to unlimited play! Now that's major fun right there! The weapons are awesome! The only thing this game lacks is a story. There is nothing in between levels, not even a simple cutscene.

Go back in TIME with a fun old game.

Remember when game developers didn't have anything to prove? Remember when they were making games that didn't need to compete with Hollywood and they were really just about having a good time? I sure do. And to get that great nostalgaic feeling, I like to play the original Time Splitters. This is a pure, FPShooting blast-stravaganza of vintage polygon fun-with-a-gun. The story line doesn't really matter but it involves time traveling alien bad guys from the future who are messing with Earth's history. So vigilantes in different time periods volunteer to stop them by laying down a hail of bullets. But the real value here is the multiplayer. Yes, the maps are small by todays standards, but they are still FUN. Trust me. At the very least, if you still have your PS2, rent this game and decide for yourself.

Weak

I expected more. Don't ask me why.

This game is nothing more than an arena-based, multi-player FPS.

Given the option of a "Story Mode," it's safe to say that I expected some kind of story. No. None. Not even the barest whisper of a story. In hindsight, that's probably for the best. The story would have ended up being too disjointed and erratic to be believable.

Playablility was okay... once you got past the horrendously long load time. Some of the harder levels, at the harder difficulty, were reasonably challenging, if one defines challenging as very little in the way of ammo, health, and weapons, and an over-abundance of computer-generated enemies that can seemingly fire around corners.

Considering the release date, the graphics were okay, if a little too angular. But, why go to all the trouble of creating an image of a character that you only see in the menu, or in glimpses during multi-player? It just re-inforces the idea that this is nothing more than an arena-based, multi-player FPS. There are much better examples of this type game out there from around the same release date. Try MechWarrior instead.

Good for shooter fans

This game is good if you like Shooting at things, but if you want a story along with your game, you might want to look elsewhere.

This title is more for the classic shooter fans like Doom or Wolfenstein where all you really need to worry about in the game is whether someone is going to shoot your balls off.

No story or motivation to speak of but if you're not into that kind of thing then I reccommend Time Splitters. For those looking for a little more to chew on you might want to look at some of the more recent titles.

Really Bad

Don't ever rent...ever

I thought this would be a great start to a franchise that boasts three iterations with a forth on the way and instead found a game completely void of any explanation save the fact that you can move and shoot guns. you don't know what you're shooting things, why you're in that time period, who it is exactly who's teleporting in front of you, and why you have to pick up an item and bring it all the way back to the beginning of the level (which means you walk through and then walk back). I literally took this game out of the mailbox and 15 minutes later had beaten it and put it back into the mailbox. Not even comparable to goldeneye or any other game. One of the wrose games I've ever played. I wouldn't even recommend this game to people who haven't played games before.

parker82 you plainly dont relize yes the missions are the same and the game wasnt long but multi player ruled and the "Simple" map maker as u put it is the only map maker Ever in a FPS and it was simple but that made it great you could make your own story mode and multi player maps the game was great if you didnt want it to be goldeneye cuz if you did go back to it.
