Disappointed.... I was a super fan of the original

I loved his game on the PlayStation 1. I still have it and play it from time to time. I was so excited when it came out on ds. I would suggest renting before you buy. It has all the same game play, almost that the original had. The difference is, you have to unlock all the locations on the map. You cant just go where you want. To unlock the other areas, which unlock in small groups, you have to complete the goals of each location in the current open group. Once you complete these goals, which are a certain amount of money and park value, you are just done and you park gets sold for what it is worth then and there and that's it. I miss the auction where you could auction it off and get way more for it. Plus there are no more trophies for biggest ride, and the rides need to be replaced after just a year or two. I seem to remember them lasting longer in the original. You now also have to negotiate your goods price as well as salaries of workers, which happens atleast once a year which gets annoying. I would suggest renting it so once you beat it you can send it back.
I've played several versions of the "build your own theme park games", it has some good points to it such as the advisor, customized settings, and goals to unlock new levels. But I really felt like it was difficult to understand the deeper aspects of the gameplay with little instruction on how to go about it. Also, I never figured out how to rotate any of the attractions so my park seemed a little one sided. :(
this game does have a lot to it. you can run almost every aspect of the business including inventory, prices, formulas for the food, how the rides operate, investments...everything. but its just not that fun...at least for me. the graphics were colorfull, i had to play it in silence however. i found the interface to be kind of a pain. i did not really enjoy this title, but do give credit to its value. it's a lot of work, and it feels so unrewarding. roller coaster tycoon is far better.
