The idea of a turn based strategy game based on Lord of the Rings was so exciting, I couldn't wait to play. The concepts in the game are also interesting...allowing characters to earn money after successful battles that can be applied to helpful items spells and skills. Unfortunately, the fun stops there as the game was unbalanced, and simply didn't take advantage of these nice foundations. For one thing, it was very difficult to ever earn enough money to take advantage of the better skills. If you tried to save money, it was very difficult to progress through the battles. Secondly, the tough character's in the game, Nazguls, and Sauron himself had these fear spells that no matter what you did would still impact your characters making them useless for turns at a time (usually at the worst time possible). Even so, the game did have some rewarding battles...it was fun to kill Sauron in the end, and there were some nice video transitions between battles. What could have made the game better? They could have added an exploration piece to the battle field allowing the player to "find" extra money and items...that would have greatly enhanced the experience. If you like turn based strategy, and you REALLY like Lord of the Rings, it's worth playing, but otherwise it comes up a little shallow.
