I don't usually write reviews, but I'm a jaded old man and this game reached me like hasn't happened in quite some time. It does a lot of things that other games try to do, but it does them all correctly.
First off, the story is amazing. Deep, human, emotional, cinematic, and unpredictable. It has a very movie-like ending, not a typical video game ending. There are a lot of really deep, touching, emotional moments and the acting is so good you really feel it.
As for gameplay, they really strike a perfect balance between stealth and shooting gameplay. Many have tried, many have failed. When a game says you can choose either path, what happens is a.) You are powerful enough that you can kill everyone, so you don't feel obligated to be stealthy; or b.) you are not powerful enough to kill in open combat, so if you break stealth you find yourself with no health and no ammo and feel compelled to do it over. In this game, no approach is impossible and no approach is perfect. Being stealthy uses resources as well (shivs have a durability and break after use.) In my experience I had to complete about 66% of the area while stealth to stand a chance at killing off the remainder in combat. If I got discovered before that I would take too bad of a beating or die trying.
The areas are linear enough to find your way but open enough to make exploring a joy. There is just the right amount of combat and the right amount of unlimited-time exploration and light puzzle solving.
I don't know if anyone is even reading this, I am way late to the party but I just wanted to put it out there. I played this game to completion and I haven't done that in quite some time.
I really really wanted to give this game a high rating but the controls make this game unplayable for me. The A.I. for CPU followers also leaves something to be desired. If there was a PC port I'd buy it immediately but I won't be wasting any money on it until then.
