I've been a member of GF for a couple years now and have never written a review for any game, but this game deserves my 1st review. I won't be able to do this game any justice, but I'll give it my best shot.
The Last of Us takes place in the year 2033, twenty years after a fungal-based, brain-altering pandemic has spread and infected most of the world's population. You start off by meeting Joel, one of the main characters, and his partner in crime Tess.
After sneaking out of the compound where they reside, you get your first look at the world 20 years after the fungus has already spread and wreaked havoc on everyone and everything. Nature has already reclaimed the world that humans built and as a result sky scrapers are crumbling, foliage and wildlife fill the empty buildings where humans once lived, city streets are desolate and look like a mixture of a forest growing where a city should be. Joel is thrust into the nightmare that the world has become, when he is asked by a dying friend to look after Ellie. And now the real adventure begins.
The voice acting is remarkable. All the voice actors give every character in the game a true sense of life. You can hear the anger, desperation, sadness, and in few cases the joy or optimism in their voices. Joel and Ellie do an exceptional job at showing character growth. Whereas at the beginning Joel sees Ellie as some kid he was forced to baby sit, slowly but surely you start to notice a more (for lack of a better word) intimate and stronger relationship being forged by both characters. Something you would expect from two strangers forced to trust each other with their lives in order to survive.
There isn't a "main" enemy because you quickly learn that bandits are just as dangerous as the infected that are waiting for you in almost pitch black, abandoned buildings.
If you don't own an expensive sound system my only suggestion for this game would be to at least play it with a headset. You'll thank yourself for
I really enjoyed this game. it starts off a bit slow for my taste but picks up later. amazingly real characters pull you into the story. it felt like participating in a movie at times. :) I really hope Naughty Dog makes a sequel to this. I would love to see how the world is, ten years down the line.
