I love playing mostly RPG games, but I thought it had been a while since I played a good shooter game, since "Golden Eye" lol But WOW. Just know that if you don't love this game then your in such a minority that you should just order what other games people think suck. Don't read more reviews, just rent it, check that, buy it...I rented it from a redbox and never returned it...I play it over and over... it's amazing, great graphics, great story, great characters and all around amazing.

First of all I will start by saying that the game itself is fantastic. Under normal circumstances I would have no problem giving this game a 9.
When I first received this game as a rental, never could get my slim PS3 to recognize the disc so I sent it back as unplayable and GF sent me a replacement. Same thing again, but after removing/reinserting a few times it finally played. This process had to be repeated every time I wanted to play the game. However, given how good this game is I could live with it.
Then things went south in a hurry. I ended up keeping the game about halfway thru which turned out to be a mistake. On the next to the last chapter, Firefly Labs, game started crashing regularly and wouldn't load any of my save games. Spent a week trying to get thru this chapter without a crash then just gave up. I've heard of other people having this issue also and all my other games play with no problem so I doubt it is an issue with my PS3. So I hope that a patch will be forthcoming to fix this so I can at least finish the game.
This game has very few cons, as far as I am concerned. The graphics (were) cutting edge and are still amazing. The nearly seamless transition from cutscene to action to cutscene to action makes this game epic. The quality of the animation never changes.
The storyline and character development is literally the best of any game...ever...that I am individually aware of. You are sold on these characters. You feel for them, you are invested in them, you want them to succeed and are saddened when they are lost. And even better, the villains are great but subtle, the storyline twists never stop, each one is more incredible than the last, and there is just the right amount of foreshadowing at just the right time.
The environment is engaging: linear gameplay but free roam style. Very well done. The zombies are......terrifying and the situations surrounding them are often worse. This is seriously an intense game. The shooting and melee is phenomenal. The weapons are increasingly effective and fun to use. The ability to make certain weapons and tools also gives you that engaged feeling of being the character. I could not put down the controller.
My only cons: as seriously epic as this story and action/adventure game was it was pretty short. I am a forager, I am the guy that looks over a whole room, every nook and cranny, not once but five times and makes sure there's nothing else there. And I finished this game in 23 hours. Also the ammunition limit is a little, ... ridiculous given that you are expected to fight endless amounts of zombies as well as human villains. At least on the first two levels of difficulty there is plenty around.
There is a reason this game takes the top place here. It is because it appeals to most gaming styles and tastes. It is the only game that I have ever tried to sell people on. It is the only game that I firmly believe is a MUST PLAY. It is a game that I will replay regularly when I get bored with my other ones
