In the future society of The Giver, everything seems perfect. There's no crime, suffering, or discontent. Peace and order are maintained through complete control of the populace, right down to controlling what people do for work and how children are raised. Even color has been crushed - the world is all in blacks, whites, and grays. Young Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memories and learn about the real world from the only other aware person, the wise Giver. As Jonas learns of the joy and pain of authentic life, he gradually realizes that their "perfect" society is built on lies. With the help of his friends, Jonas sets out to tell the truth, free the people, and change the world.
