What did people like so much about Morrowind?

I gave this a 6 for a reason, let me explain.

This game is not bad, I love Morrowind's immense world and storyline, and the large ammount of quests.

But what did people obsess over?

I try it again and again, I own the game! But what I don't get is why people love it so much, I'd love a message or something to help me on it. Because these are the flaws I saw.

- Combat, you would hit and hit and nothing would die, and at a low level it is literally impossible to kill a Cliff Racer. What's wrong with combat? Is there somewhere to go where I can make use of training, possibly a dungeon of a sort?

- Hard to understand quests, you would get a quest, and maybe you might just pass it up, then you forget about it in the "journal"

- No navigation, there is no navigation in this game, you have to search yourself.

Now now, I want to like this game, because everyone says it's SO good! But what's so good?
Am I just bad at it?
For now I will rate it "Above Average," because this game seems so great, I just need to understand it better, although there are noticible flaws.

_Oblivion's superiority______________

Oblivion is better then this game, in Oblivion the combat felt real, the graphics were so improved, and the questlines were so fun, not to mention all the npc's HAD VOICES. It feels like a classic to play Oblivion, and morrowind.. But Oblivion still defeats Morrowind.

__Skyrim's "superiority"________

Great combat system, amazing storyline, bad questlines, equal to oblivion in certain ways. I'd say Skyrim beats Morrowind by far.

Another thing I want to discuss is that Morrowind is GREAT for a 2002 game and that it's a massive improvment from Daggerfall (terrible) and arena (horrrible)

Morrowind seems great but I just need to give it time, for now a 6, above average.. I hope to see more in this game.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. That is all I have to say for someone to go "WOW", because Morrowind is one of the epic adventure RPG's in the Elder Scrolls Saga. Bethesda did a great job for this game in 2001.
I never would have thought that in 2001, they would bring in 3D graphics already!!! This is what was new for everyone, and millions of people are still saying, with Morrowind, Skyrim, and Oblivion out, that Morrowind is their most favorite out of them all!!
I would (and already have) recommended this game to all of my friends, and just anyone I know!! I actually was in Seattle one weekend and everyone who passed me I would go "Get The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind!!! It's awesome!!" no matter who it was!!
I really enjoyed this game, and every time I listen to it's theme song (Morrowind's or Skyrim's, because they are the same) it brings back good memories of this game!!

Anyone going back to play this? Skyrim 2011

dontbehatn,

First it's so fricken weird that your from Turtle Lake, WI. I read your review and then saw your from the same town I live in. There's what less then 1,000 people here. So weird.

But back to the game. I disagree with your review.

Morrowind (the Game of the Year edition) with Tribunal and Bloodmoon is better then Oblivion. That's not to say Oblivion wasn't a great game in it's own right though.

Sure Oblivion has better graphics but you have to remember this game was launched in 2002 and Oblivion was in 2006. Morrowind was on a older system (Xbox) with more limitations then Oblivion (Xbox 360). You really can't compare the two fairly because of this. Both won Game of the Year and for good merit. I guess it's just a matter of opinion but I played Morrowind for twice as long as I played Oblivion and I played both for years on and off.

As others have said, this is my favorite RPG to date. The Elder Scrolls series as a whole is just epic and the best RPG's on consoles. Can't wait for Skyrim in November 2011.
