What did people like so much about Morrowind?

I gave this a 6 for a reason, let me explain.
This game is not bad, I love Morrowind's immense world and storyline, and the large ammount of quests.
But what did people obsess over?
I try it again and again, I own the game! But what I don't get is why people love it so much, I'd love a message or something to help me on it. Because these are the flaws I saw.
- Combat, you would hit and hit and nothing would die, and at a low level it is literally impossible to kill a Cliff Racer. What's wrong with combat? Is there somewhere to go where I can make use of training, possibly a dungeon of a sort?
- Hard to understand quests, you would get a quest, and maybe you might just pass it up, then you forget about it in the "journal"
- No navigation, there is no navigation in this game, you have to search yourself.
Now now, I want to like this game, because everyone says it's SO good! But what's so good?
Am I just bad at it?
For now I will rate it "Above Average," because this game seems so great, I just need to understand it better, although there are noticible flaws.
_Oblivion's superiority______________
Oblivion is better then this game, in Oblivion the combat felt real, the graphics were so improved, and the questlines were so fun, not to mention all the npc's HAD VOICES. It feels like a classic to play Oblivion, and morrowind.. But Oblivion still defeats Morrowind.
__Skyrim's "superiority"________
Great combat system, amazing storyline, bad questlines, equal to oblivion in certain ways. I'd say Skyrim beats Morrowind by far.
Another thing I want to discuss is that Morrowind is GREAT for a 2002 game and that it's a massive improvment from Daggerfall (terrible) and arena (horrrible)
Morrowind seems great but I just need to give it time, for now a 6, above average.. I hope to see more in this game.
