Nowhere Near Super Sonic Fun

What kind of racer Zoo Games was trying to sell us in Super Sonic Racer? It feels like a total rip off from Mario Kart Wii or Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing.
This game has the same type of items used during the race – a rocket, a mine and a jet booster. Every track is three laps long. Up to four players can take on a track splitscreen.
But that’s where the similarities end, and the problems for Super Sonic Racer begin. Unlike the other two games, you can’t play this game online, it only has eight tracks (much less than the 19 in Sega and the 32 in Mario Kart.)
And guess what? You can only play two tracks when you first get the game; you’ll have to unlock the other tracks by winning certain races (Second place is no good here.)
But with loose controls and an AI that tries every possible method to blast you off the road, trying to win the races can get annoying.
What makes the journey even more aggravating is that these tracks are very short and forgettable. There’s nothing on display here that I’ve seen in almost any other racer on the Wii.
To top things off are the racers themselves; they are supposed to be 12 crazy characters (all but 4 are locked – you have to win races to unlock the rest). But these characters have no personality or quirks about them. Sure they have odd vehicles, but they don’t say anything during the race, and there’s NO information or back story about any of them. You could just substitute 12 average humans and get the same deal.
Super Sonic Racer is just another racer that’s may be fun for kids around 10 years old because it’s a pick up and play game - but the bad controls, locked material, bad track design and bland characters means those kids are better off with some other racer. SKIP IT.
