I've been anticipating this game since it was first announced and caught every trailer and or sneak peek I could. And from what I could see, this game would be legendary. I was right. Perhaps not the most precise racer out there, but Split/Second is a classic arcade racer at heart. So don't pretend its a honest simulation racer. But honestly, Gran Tourismo is rather boring to me. There's no true excitement in the races. Its just the same track over and over again. I know that's not true, those game are technically amazing, I have always preferred the old Need For Speed and The newest Burnout. So this game was a blast. Yes, it has its flaws for sure, for instance, some tracks don't have a super power play. Which means you can spend an entire lap earning up a three-layer attack, when there isn't any. The drifting is a bit to good, not for easy-going gamers.
Pros: Amazing graphics, both enviromental, physical (cars) and crashes. Wicked sweet crash physics and rewind mechanics. Nice selection of cars, there's something for everyone. Lots of tracks and good selection of race types. The Power Plays are far more than a gimmick.
Cons: The drifting mechanics are a bit overdone, some crashes are random, being in 1st places isn't as rewarding as it should be during the race, some tracks don't have any major power plays.
So, this game is as amazing as I was hoping. I own it, but defiantly a rent first. Because those classic simulation racers won't enjoy it like I do. So go ahead, strap on your seat-belt, and go and win the first season of the new hit show, Split/Second! :)
