Vicarious Visions have been making Spidey games for the DS from the day it was launched 2 1/2 years ago, with Spidey 2, and it seemed more to bring on a 3d aspect to the game, and not to make huge use of the touch screen. Spidey has reached his 4th outing on the DS, and it seems like they squeezed a little something special into the game. Now, lets first focus on the combat, a real great aspect of the game. This games combat system is completely touch base, leaving you to do punches and sling webs on the bottom screen, and see them blow-out on the top. Now, you might think this is an easy rollercoaster to lose it, but unlike its console versions, it works very well. It starts with a bit of a learning curve for about 10 minutes, but sooner or later you'll be doing combos and slinging web rodeos like a pro. Now as i said, Spidey 2 on the DS focused on a very 3d aspect to the game, with the 2.5d style, well for the good news is that the 2.5d style is back, and a lot better. Even though you won't be seeing 3d cutscenes, which are replaced with comic stills, it looks a lot smoother. Now, lets get to the bad aspects. Unlike its console versions, Manhattan is pretty small, and a lot of the level design is pretty straightforward, with a little bit of side-pockets. Plus, just like a lot of movie games are, its pretty short. In fact so short, that getting 100% completion isn't that hard. And also, if your getting the game just to see what happens, don't be so smart. The games plot is pretty losely based, and the ending is pretty underwhelming compared to the movie. Now, overall, Spidey 3 on the DS is not terrible, and not even close to that in my opinion, but it seems as though they really focused mainly on gameplay and graphics over the quantity of the actual game. I do believe you should rent it, and just maybe think about buying it, but theres very little chance you'll actually come back to it after you beat it.
