When I first picked this up, I honestly expected SPECTROBES to be a total POKEMON rip off. Believe me, it isn't. The truth is it is hard to make any kind of "get and train monster" type rpg without comparing it to POKEMON, but rest assured this is only a LITTLE like it. Basically, this game is a sci-fi rpg where you find monster fossils, use tools to dig them out of the ground, then put them in a machine and use your voice (with the mic) to "hatch" them. You also dig up minerals which let you decide what type of monster (defensive, offensive, etc) you want to create. Then you feed them, let them grow, and use them in battle. As if that was not enough to keep you busy there is also a race of aliens trying to take you out. Guess what you use to stop them? Good guess, your monsters..and weapons of your own. The battles are sort of final fantasy-ish, but mixed with some action oriented battle (like zelda) as well. Long story short, there are TONSSSSSS of things to do in this game - it is very hard to get bored, because when you tire of say collecting fossils, theres always battles to gain exp or the story itself to play through. This game isn't too hard and I personally am glad. You will not get frustrated, you will simply have fun. The graphics are top notch and the entire game is in 3d with some REALLY REALLY stunning cutscenes tossed in here and there. If you are an RPG/SCI FI fan and have been disappointed with pretty much every offering of the type besides FINAL FANTASY III then this is a wish come true for you. I am giving it a ten simply for the depth, the graphics, and the fact its about time we get another solid rpg on this awesome handheld system. A+++++!!!
