This game is supposed to thrive on realism and difficult choices, but at the end of the day nothing washes away the fact that this is one of the worst shooters made in recent memory.
Combat is a combination of Halo and Drake's Fortune. You will spray round after round into foe after foe, typically killing an enemy in 2-3 shots despite being able to take dozens at a time yourself. You remain unattached to your weaponry, as you somehow only brought enough ammo for the first firefight. You then spend the rest of the game picking weapons off of corpses.
The one innovative feature (being able to quickly call out a target for your team to take down) is drowned in another indelible failure; your teammates are essentially incapable of killing any enemy without your command. Instead, they will blather about senselessly (talking louder than the gunfire at all times; even when you are blasting away from a turret.) You will never feel like you are a soldier in a tough scenario; you are just another video game Rambo racking up an impossible kill count, only with noisy sidekicks.
For a game whose main draw is the result of your choices, you are given almost no choice to make. Facing the "harsh reality" of your choices is rendered moot by the complete lack of realism in combat. The title is extremely linear, nearly to the point of rail-carting.
Play the game for 30 minutes, and count how many choices you make and how many your character makes for you. What is your characters name? What is his rank? How long has he been with his team? Return the game, grab some quarters, and go play Time Crisis; same experience but less sand in your boots.
