Good plotline or not- Why does Sonic need a sword?

Ah, Sonic the Hedgehog...
I've played every Sonic game out there, and I usually love each game. Although, this time, I'm sad to say that this game was NOT worth renting, and waiting an entire week for. The plot and graphics are amazing, I'll give it that, it also has a pretty decent soundtrack, but the gameplay is horribly repetitive. Move Wiimote up, slash to the right, move Wiimote down, slash to the right. You really only have 4 different ways to attack, which gets boring after a little bit. Especially when you have 20 enemies bombarding you all at once.
If you are a Sword-fighting fan, or a Sonic fan, I regret to say, that it's best to skip this title.
