This is basically Grand Theft Auto for grown ups. The plot is excellent, the game play is fun, and the side missions are entertaining but never feel like they are distracting or getting in the way.
The only complaint I have about the game, which is a small one, is the cost of death is a shade too high. I mean this in the sense of cash. Every time you die outside of the story missions you spawn in the closest hospital (which sometimes is across the district from where you were) and there is a medical charge. It's obvious it is scaled on how much you have in your account. This actually kept me from trying side missions until I had compiled a large enough bank balance. So from 3 hours of game play in to almost the end of the story I avoided side missions like the plague in case of my death because I was afraid it would ruin my bank balance and I couldn't buy the car I wanted. (Conversely, in story missions when you die you just spawn at a checkpoint.)
Overall I would say that Sleeping Dogs is a good game. There are some things about it that hinder the experience but overall it is good. It's a standard sandbox game but you are the good guy this time and the setting is china. The melee combat is fun and adds to the game. The story is good but a little to drawn out in some parts. they could of elaborated more on some side characters. But it would be a good rent
