Sleeping Dogs Will Keep You Up

The fact that you play a cop is the only thing that keeps this game from being a GTA copy. It means you can’t just go running around killing anyone and destroying anything, and the fact that it keeps you honest keeps you focused on the goals of the game: getting street cred and working your way up the ladder. You get penalized for doing things like mowing down civilians with a minivan in a crowded market, and get bonuses for beating up “baddies.” You live a double life, and that adds to the complication of the gameplay. You have to check your behavior to ensure the success of the mission. For example if you’re chasing a rival gangster through a populated alley, you can’t just shoot at him all willy-nilly. You have to take precise actions to ensure that you maintain your integrity, whilst walking the line to impress your gang leaders and throw them off the cop scent.
An excellent storyline, impressive execution, and straightforward controls make Sleeping Dogs a really fun and exciting play. I’d definitely say it’s worth the play. I still stand by my initial feelings about it though. “This will have to do until the next Grand Theft Auto comes out in 2013.”
