When i first played it i was a bit skeptical i would like it, but after finishing it i'm glad I gave it a shot.
It may not be the most original idea, but it does everything fairly well.
My only disapointment from the game was the ending which wasn't bad bad I just felt it could have been a bit better.
If you like good storytelling you will enjoy this game, even if it is a bit predictable at times.
The action is fairly intense without being sickeningly over the top.
The graphics are fairly average for what you would expect.
There is the occasional glitch... for me it was a flying boat... not a long story, but too long for this review.
I'd say 8 - 15 hours for the main story so nothing special in length
Even though there isn't a lot of replay ability there is enough going on to give you another 15+ hours of gameplay
The face lv requirement on clothing was a bit odd, but understandable.
The skill selection on level up felt less like a tree and more like two pieces of bamboo.
So in summary
+Loads of collectables that are actually useful
no one thing was really bad
so four pros and no major cons
So a solid 8
A game people who are fans of the genre must play, but a good enough game that I think every one sould give a shot.
The fact that you play a cop is the only thing that keeps this game from being a GTA copy. It means you can’t just go running around killing anyone and destroying anything, and the fact that it keeps you honest keeps you focused on the goals of the game: getting street cred and working your way up the ladder. You get penalized for doing things like mowing down civilians with a minivan in a crowded market, and get bonuses for beating up “baddies.” You live a double life, and that adds to the complication of the gameplay. You have to check your behavior to ensure the success of the mission. For example if you’re chasing a rival gangster through a populated alley, you can’t just shoot at him all willy-nilly. You have to take precise actions to ensure that you maintain your integrity, whilst walking the line to impress your gang leaders and throw them off the cop scent.
An excellent storyline, impressive execution, and straightforward controls make Sleeping Dogs a really fun and exciting play. I’d definitely say it’s worth the play. I still stand by my initial feelings about it though. “This will have to do until the next Grand Theft Auto comes out in 2013.”
I know many gamers are all about shooting 24/7 seven days a week. I am sure there are some like myself that really look for great story lines and a line up of amazing voice over talents. That's exactly what you get in sleeping dogs. There is plenty of opportunity for shooting, killing with blades and slamming a screeming villian in the trunk of a car, but i would put this game in the top three games i have ever played as far as voice talent goes. The story is good, and just remember when fighting, as soon as you are attacked and the opponenet turns red triangle button on ps3 is your best friend.
