IGN Preview of Singstar Latino
Uh-oh.
I'm Greg Miller, the whitest guy at IGN. I have no idea how to speak Spanish let alone sing it. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Sony's branching out and grabbing fans that aren't limited to Middle America, but this puts me at a disadvantage as IGN's resident SingStar expert. That said, IGN won't be reviewing SingStar Latino like it reviews every other SingStar. Instead, we're going to give you the track list, talk about the features on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2, and let you decide if you understand Spanish and want this game.
How about that track list, eh? I have no idea if any of them are good, but there sure are a lot of them, right?
If for some reason you've never heard of SingStar, the idea here is that you get to karaoke with your friends on your PlayStation. You pick a song, some empty pitch and timing indicators pop up and you fill them in with your voice, and you get points depending on how awesomely you do. If you have a PlayStation Eye or Eye Toy, you can replace the real music video with a live feed of your living room, you can duet or play eight-player party games, and so on.
Basically, if you like the music and feel like crooning, SingStar is a blast.
On the PS3, SingStar Latino packs all the functionality of its PS3 brethren. You can download songs from the SingStore to bolster your library, you can create an online profile to share your videos and snapshots, you can join online clubs, and you can save snapshots and recordings to your system. SingStar's designed to be a party machine that lets you relive and share your favorite moments.
Over on the PS2, all that online functionality has been ripped out, but the core stuff is there. You can still play with eight friends and swap discs from the song selection menu, but you can't upload anything or have a profile.
Again -- if the songs are good because I have no frickin' idea.
