Silent Hill 4 has the same creepy atmosphere, music, camera angles, and enemies the series has been known for and the story is fairly good considering the third game tied up a lot of the loose ends from the previous games in the series. As the title suggests, you play as a man that for some reason or other is trapped in his apartement and the only way of getting out is to discover the mystery of the apartment by going though a hole in the wall in his bathroom to different worlds. This game is actually easier for beginners of the series I think because there is a very lenient learning curve in that the game is almost broken down into levels and that there are very few enemies for the first few levels. Later on though, the levels become very complex and loaded with enemies, although to be honest, I got through the game with only using my gun a handful of times since the melee weapons were so powerful and easy to use. The cinemas are by far the best of the series, with a good horror movie quality to most of them. There creatures in the game are all original to the series, but none of them are as unnerving as some of the monsters from the past games. Things I disliked about the game however was the restriction to the amount of items you could hold (I know it makes it more realistic, but there is a lot of backtracking to your apartment as a result), finding some items that really have no use anywhere in the game, and the fact that you have a character with you for most the latter part of the game that cannot keep up with you and you can go through several rooms before you even realize that you lost her. The final boss battle is very unique though and overall I think Silent HIll 4 is a very good addtion to the series, although a bit different as well.

I felt that this game was going to have a cold, eerie feel to it, and I was right. This game feels dark all the way through. A lot of people said that this game was too hard, it really isn't. The enemies weren't that tough and the puzzles weren't that complex. Sometimes it's a little hard to find something or somewhere, but you just have to keep looking. It starts getting harder when you get to the backtracking through the previous areas, which is not that bad. Your apartment feels like a sanctuary for 2/3 of the game. Then, your apartment will start turning into this living force that will damage you when you go near some areas. For example, the windows will start opening and closing rapidly, making a lot of noise. The color also gets rusty and brown, just like the dream at the beginning.

The enemies aren't that exciting and I was expecting more kinds of enemies. There are a variety of different kinds of ghosts, but they usually don't do anything different.

I only rented this game to hear the story, which is the best part of the game. The story keeps getting darker and creepier as you learn more about the story of your apartment. Therefore, I think this game is good for a rental, but that's it.

This silent hill, is more based an action if you ask me. However, it still has a really good story. The gore, is a little lacking compared to the others, but whatever.

The story in this game is not one that you know right away, or are told in one area what happened (like the silent hill movie). in this game, if you don't read the notes, you wont know what's going on really, but you may get the picture still.

The controls on this game are a bit different, instead of holding r2 you hold r1 to get ready to attack.

This is the only silent hill, i can really remember having to backtrack a lot. It was a little annoying towards the end with the backtracking, but oh well.

If when you are done you don't understand what happened here's a tip: Read the silent hill 4 wikipedia, makes total sense of the game.
