Being a fan of the Civilization series, I was excited to hear it was coming to the PS3. I almost bought this game the day it came out, but I'm glad I didn't. This was a chance to revamp the structure of this game which hasn't changed much at all. To my disappointment, no new ideas were brought into Revolutions, instead some things were actually cut. The depth of interaction and control has been dramatically decreased, and your are unable to really customize your cities. Still, this is a fun game for fans of the series. Worth checking out, but don't be in a hurry....nothing new here.
First off if you have ever played the computer versions of this series I believe you will be disappointed in this game. It is not as customizable, no where near the depth, many less units available, and the list goes on. The graphics are a slight upgrade, however they are much more cartoon like.
I believe they attempted to "dumb" the game down so all the 5 year old PS3 owners could play this game and enjoy it.
I play the game once through and played the game of the week, and I was done with it. Not much in the way of wanting to play it again.
It is a lot more simple than the PC versions which I guess could be good for some, but I think it is missing to many options. There are no openborders and all there really is to diplomacy is trading technologies. I found it rather boring because of that. It also seemed to move much faster than the others and that took away from what I Civilization has become to be. With it being turned based there is no need to simplify the controls. It all could be done easily with the ps3 controller.
All in all, if you have an older version of civ stick with that one. If not, go get an older version.
