Horrible Game for a Good Movie

I'm willing to try most games. I even find some enjoyment in most of them.
This, however, was horrible. Top to bottom. Some of the humor was decent (Shrek 3 is my favorite film of the bunch), but the play was horrible. It is a button-masher par excellence. All you do is mash buttons constantly. Words fail to describe how tedious it is. You get to be Shrek, Puss in Boots, Donkey, Fiona, Arthur, and Sleeping Beauty and all of them control fairly similarly. Sure, Shrek is much stronger than all the others --- but the basics control are somewhat yawn-inducing.
Please don't even get me started on the animation. This game is blatantly a port of a previous gen title --- and the animation STILL is slow. Puss in Boots animation is pretty apparently slow as all get out. Everything just drags. Slowdown in a game with the visual firepower to nearly poke holes in wet paper is just baffling. OK, we can pull off CoD 4 with no real slowdown --- but a basic platformer with mediocre visuals is just too taxing for the 360?
They seek to re-tell the story of the movie, except without nearly the level of quality. I know, it's a movie tie-in --- but I played Harry Potter and it actually made the world seem alive. Shrek makes the world feel like a drowned rat that has commenced to smelling funny. This would be worse than Transformers if not that some parts of the game are borderline amusing.
This game really isn't worth a rental. And don't think "Well, it's an easy 1000 points" because while the game, admittedly, is easy enough that babies in the womb can pull off a win in utero --- the Achievements are glitchy as can be. Don't even deal with the idiocy of having to play the entire game on difficulties that you have to unlock --- but where you can't immediately re-start the game, it is a bit of a challenge.
Do not play it. Do not rent it. If you own it, just chalk it up to inexperience and never admit you paid money for it. If you stole it, please seek professional help.
