Lately, I've been bored with every FPS that comes out. It always involves the same tripe I've had shoveled into my mouth over and over again since i was a lad: space marines killing aliens and military blockheads that get off to killing brown people. I was looking forward to Shellshock 2, and i was never disappointed. Sure, some of the level design is wonky, and one particular boss fight seems to last forever, but the strange and convoluted story, along with average gun play simply won me over. Besides, isn't killing zombies in a Vietnam War-era setting just to funny to pass up? Give it a rent, and keep your mind open. If anything, its an easy 1000 Gamerscore.

Watch Apocalypse Now, then come back you will understand better. Paints the picture rather like Apocalypse Now, your brother is driven crazy, you see him then the base is under attack, you get to escape with a guy who wants your brother for some reason having to do with a weapon of some sort. Your brother escapes in the attack.

The combat is iffy. You get a signal as to which direction your being shot from, in the side of the screen turns whiteish, not easy to see, and very un easy to determine how far to whichever side your being shot from. There is no cover option, yet the AI has and uses a cover option. They also happen to have sniper skills while behind cover popping just their gun out to shoot at you.

You select a different weapon with the left or right on the numpad, which doesn't always work. On easy, the enemy takes numerous bullets to kill, and happens to be able to shoot better and faster than you do with the same gun. The story is cliche, the graphics are not very well done, mostly in you can't actually see much of anything until your on top of it, beyond maybe 5 feet or so it's rather blobish, there's a form but good luck telling if that is the front or back.

There's another problem with the graphics, the lighting, or rather lack of. The first area it's night time so it's dark right, well actually wrong, they blackened everything except to your torch, otherwise known as flashlight, which is great in and of itself, the next area though it's daytime, and darker than the night time area, I had to raise the brightness of the game just to actually see like it's daytime, which I did before I even started the game.

It has possibility, it could actually be an interesting game. If it was done by a different design group, or at least given more time to fix the controls, get the lighting uniform and rather fixed the story so you actually care.

What's up with all the bad reviews, anyone who rates this game less than 7 should have their head checked. The game is fine, it's a little strange, but it's a good game, shellshock won't be game of the year, but it's still a good FPS, I recommend renting it first, buy it only if you really need it, otherwise save your money for a better game, don't get me wrong I liked this game a lot, however I would save the money for Halo Wars. Bottom line forget the bad reviews most of them don't know what their talking about; play the game and have fun that's why we are gamers right, enjoy.
