Not Living Up to the Shadowrun Name

Argh, I wrote a big review and found out I had a 2000 word maximum :(

So here is the long story short, its a unique and innovative multiplayer game that has some major problems. Its JUST multiplayer but don't let the name fool you, and there is NO SPLIT SCREEN playing for the console. If you want to play this with your buddies, better get several copies and have several 360's or there will be just one person at a time.

It is a Vista release as well that can allow players to compete cross platform... but Vista users have to pay the xbox live fee... or they could play it for free on non-xbox live servers and not have to worry about the horrendous connecting times for matches involved with the 360. I think we know the answer to that.

The lack of single player and story is a complete cop-out considering the origins of this game is the pen & paper RP books. Fasa and Microsoft took a mildly known name to help with marketing, but even then there was a statement released saying it doesn't follow the original Shadowrun plot-line. A big disgrace for any of the original fans.

Where are the deckers? Where is the matrix? Where are the runners? There are no classes, just a bunch of races that can use each others abilities. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but play a few maps as a few different races and you pretty have played the entire game.

I think its a lot like what would have happened if Counterstrike were released without Half-life to back itself up on.

They need the single player, but at this point, if one is made it will be released as an expansion or a seperate game and rest assured, Microsoft will charge for it. Another reviewer put it best, you are paying 30$ more than the game is worth.

Rent it, don't buy. Though this is game fly so I can't image you aren't considering renting it :)

Hope the review helps, happy gaming!

PS Largest let down of the year imo.

THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WHEN I RENTED THIS GAME WAS THAT THERE IS NO STORY MODE. ITS AN ONLINE ONLY SHOOTER WITH DECENT GRAPHICS AND UNIQUE GAMEPLAY. I RECOMMEND WAITING FOR THE PRICE TO DROP AND THEN IF YOU LIKE THE ONLINE ENOUGH BUY IT FOR 40 OR 30 DOLLARS.

The idea and execution of this game was very well done. Defiantly worth renting if you have Xbox live if not, you probably shouldn't. Some people are complaining that its too complex but really if you have played any other shooter on the 360 then it wont take you more than 5 minutes to get the hang of it. There are a small amount of spells and tech that help to limit the complexity. Lineage does seem to have the advantage sometimes because its easier to grab the flag and run sometimes than it is to defend that flag. Even if my team is losing I can still enjoy the game. The different races with the different abilities helps to keep the game refreshed. You get bored just switch to playing an orc or a dwarf. I know how much work it is to make a game like this on the computer and console and I can understand why it would have been too expensive to make a campaign. Overall a great game just wish there was more.
