I feel like a nerd, but I wish there was a little more to the game other then jumping on huge tower like monsters. Great graphics if you have an HDTV and use the progressive scan option. Cool sound through digital optical out into a surround system. If only you could get new upgrades. One major thing missing in this game is a story line. The only thing that keeps me playing, is to see how huge the next boss will be. Have a horse and trying to find your next Colossus is pointless. They might as well have you just spawn to the location.
Pros: Amazing graphics for a PS2 game, Can go almost anywhere, climbing and defeating massive monsters, and great sound.
Cons: Give me a story and people to interact with, or upgrades.
I would rent through Game fly and not purchase. You can beat the game in 1-2 days.
I thought that this game was very original for the amount of quality that it displays. Even though there is nothing but subtitles you are still easily immersed in this fictional world. The immersion comes easily without many cinema's to progress the storyline. The controls are a bit tricky to learn at first but they are easily mastered. Only a few times did I run into problems with the camera, but it did not take away from my experience with this game. There are no typical diversions like in most other games. There is little to do then progress the storyline, which is what you will want to do, because after playing this game for an hour you will want to do nothing but finish. It takes less then ten hours to beat but is still an experience that most gamers who are looking for something unique should experience.
Shadow of the Colossus, I must say, is not a game for everyone. It is not for people who are looking for a long drawn adventure or a game fraught with action. It is a game, that is meant to be viewed as an art piece. When you take your first steps into the game, you'll realize just how big and beautiful the world you get to explore is. There are many times, when, appreciating the landscape and the art form is even better than fighting the Colossi. The game is short, yes, but there is a lot of replay ability with a Hard Mode and Time Attack Mode. The Colossi battles are quite good and you will soon find your favorites that you wish to fight over and over again. The adventure is thrilling, but only if you can appreciate good art. Overall, this game gets a 10.
