Scurge is a strong homage to the 16-bit shooter generation. With an isometric perspective, relentlessly respawning enemies, and rooms that reset once you leave them, Scurge asks more of your thumbs in an hour of game time than most games do in their entirety. Enemies swarm constantly from all 8 direction points as you try to find keys to get to the next area. Combine that with a timer of sorts (your infection increases as you play and you must reach decontamination zones to rid yourself of the disease, which also saves your progress), and you have an extremely challenging game. Scurge exhibits sharp, multilayered graphics with 2D sprites that animately very smoothly. The music is upbeat MIDI and sound effects are what you would expect from a game that started out in development for the Gameboy Advance. Overall, highly recommended if you were fan of games like Smash TV, Contra, etc. Just be warned that the game IS hard and your thumbs WILL hurt.
