I bought GTA: Vice City the day it came out and it consumed my life for quite some time afterward. Scarface has done the same. Although it is a blatant GTA ripoff, it's a good ripoff. The missions are varied, the gunplay is awesome, and the world is rather big. Scarface succeeds where others fail by adding unique twists to the standard GTA gameplay. Buying "Exotics" (ranging from cars to furniture for your mansion) to increase your experience points, haggling over the best interest rate for your laundered money, intimidating gangs so they won't step up to you in the city, and (now get this) your behavior determines if the police come after you with guns blazing. You walk around town with you M-16 out, the cops take notice. You run over a family of 5, the cops take notice. However, if you are in the middle of nowhere, you could drop shells left and right and the cops might never show up. Along those lines, if your wreck a car, you have to pay to repair it before you use it again. Your driver will bring what ever car you own to your location (with a trunk full of goodies that go boom) with a single call. For the most part, the days of jacking cars to get from point A to point B are over with what Scarface brings to the table. If you are looking for the excitement you felt with the early GTA games, give Scarface a shot. The only downside of the game is there are no collectibles to gather. No GTAesque hidden packages that would require you to explore every nook and cranny of the Scarface world. Everything you need is either bought or unlocked as the game progresses. Give it a go and watch out for the chainsaws.
