The combat mechanics have been reviewed as very bad, and they are quite bad. One could make the case for it being more "real", but that might just be an excuse.
The traps are interesting in roughly the first 2-4 hours of the game, then it's nothing but repeats.
In theory, it fills in some narrative gaps in the Saw storyline (it takes place between Saw I and Saw II), but I don't think it's so vital as to recommend this game.
This game is fine to amuse yourself with the Saw world.
