A great trip down memory lane

Samurai Showdown was one of the few fighting games that picked up on the Street Fighter craze and was actually fun to play. The original game had a mixed cast of characters each with over the top special moves. The game was surprisingly deep and required pretty much the same strategy as the SF games. The series in my opinion peaked with part II and each one after offered very little in terms of changes to the game, with the exception of new characters and play controls. This disc gives you parts 1-5 and part 6 as a separate mode. The games look and play just as well as the arcade counterparts, though there is some noticeable slowdown in some matches. This anthology collection is really for the fans, but anyone who never played any Samurai Showdown game, will get a thrill playing a great, old school, 2D weapons based fighter.

A great compilation to a great series. My only complaint is that even though they have all of the Samurai Showdowns (1,2,3,4,and 5), they missed Samurai Showdown 5 Special, which was the very last game released on the Neo Geo MVS system. That said, this is an awesome collection that has included the never-before-released in the U.S. Samurai Showdown 6, which is an excellent game which combines all pof the elements and characters of the previous 5 and mesh them together with some new features and characters. I would recommend for any fan to check it out. You won't be disappointed.

A Great Collection

Once upon a time ago Samurai Showdown was regarded as the 2D Soul Calibur of its time. It was great weapons based combat. Years later it's amazing to play 5 of these games on one disc. I used to play the original SS on Genesis and I can see all the things I was missing and why Neo Geo was a more powerful console. Genesis couldn't handle a bit of the graphics including the zoom in/zoom out feature of the games. It also includes blood, something the Genesis version didn't have iirc. Overall it's a great collection of games and if you played the series at all and like it once upon a time, definitely rent this and I recommend you buy this from somewhere because this is a great collection.
