i think people gave this game way too much credit. the driving physics are no better then the first saints row. which honestly. a game that is driving 50% of the time to me should truthfully put some effort into making it less a disaster. i dont expect alot, but the cumbersome controls and unrealistic feel are just a pain to get around anywhere, graphics are alright...all in all, i kept the game 2 days and put it back in the mail...if you have played grand theft auto, this game just doesnt play in the same league at all. they needed to step their game up big time to compete with gta for overall playability and fun factor. waste of time.
Saints Row is a great game. As was GTA4. So enough with the comparisons and fan-boys arguing back and forth on which was better. Neither are. They're both great in their own ways. Now, on to the review.
The Negatives: Now if you're looking for a game with great graphics and physics, look elsewhere. The game runs on the exact same engine as Saints Row 1. Nothing has changed other than the addition of vehicles, weapons, taking hostages, and a new story line. And of course, online play and co-op. If you're looking for a game that requires thought and strategy, then REALLY look elsewhere. This game requires little to no strategy what-so-ever. It's simply run-and-gun. One of the characters even jokes about how little strategy is in the game during a cinematic. And if you're looking for a game with a great story-line with compelling twists and intellectual dialog, Saints Row will be the biggest disappointment of your life. The story-line seems to have been written by 5-year-olds who based the entire game off of the idea "Hey, blowing stuff up and shooting people is fun!" The story line is less realistic than Lord of the Rings for god's sake. it's quite pathetic. And after playing the game for more than an hour, I felt my IQ dropping.
The Positives: Despite all the countless negatives I've listed, this is a good game. And I really do enjoy it. No...really. I do. The gameplay (as outdated as it is) is actually is a lot of fun. But my favorite part of the game would be the customization. No matter your appearance, you can make your character look exactly like you. My other favorite thing is the sound track. No matter what you like, Saints Row has a radio station that you will love. My personal favorite being "Krunch 106.66" which plays death metal and hard rock. Also, I love that the programmers actually put a lot of work into putting good cheats into the game. Games don't really have that these days.
In conclusion; it is definitely worth a rent. Or possibly even a buy.
