Bring on the avalanche!

I recently played Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip and it reminded me of the best snowboarding game I ever played, SSX3. Out of all the big mountain games I've played, nothing had such an epic feeling, solid controls and plain coolness as SSX3.
The genius is in the mountain itself. All the courses link together to create a big, beautiful mountain to explore and compete on. The effects and graphics are pitch perfect for this type of game. Even the music works well here, reaching climactic highs while your pulling off cool stunts and quietly retreating to the background when things are going badly. And the shear amount of unlockable content is icing on the snow-covered cake.
Racing is a competitive joy, as all the racers compete in a knockdown brawl down the mountain, time trials will adequately test your riding skills and trick competitions will have you pulling off huge tricks for equally huge scores.
The sense of speed and the feeling of snow beneath your board add to the experience. It's not always perfect, but it's close enough.
If you have any problems, it's probably going to be with the time trials. These tests are so stringent that you will have a tough time completing them. Each time you do the full mountain time trial could result in a half-hour of your life you'll never get back. And some of later challenges against the other characters get ridiculous.
It's still a joy to play and it's the snowboarding game I remember after playing so many others. Considering it's over five years old, that's impressive.
