Instructions Unclear, but Immersive

I played this game for about 35 'game days', which was playing pretty regularly for a couple weeks. There's a lot to do on any given day. Between maintaining your relationships with townies, building your skills, and keeping your monsters & crops, it often feels like there's not enough time in a game day to take adequate care of all those elements.

I hadn't played any Rune Factory games before this one, but I had played a few versions of Harvest Moon, which is really similar. If you've played Harvest Moon, you'll recognize a lot of elements: adding to your house, crafting/cooking, building relationships with people in town, fishing, festivals, etc. This game does add a battle element that I'm not entirely sure works. The monster system seems like an incomplete concept that just got thrown in.

In terms of actual gameplay: the graphics are beautifully rendered, and the controls are pretty straightforward, although navigating the items and equipment gets pretty annoying at times. The icons are tiny and the joystick is really touchy when you're in your rucksack. I started getting pretty frustrated when my rucksack was full, and I had to do a lot of back-and-forth from rucksack to storage.

I do like that you build friendships with everyone on the island, regardless if they're a romantic target or not, and also that there is a menu that shows your level of friendship with each person. It makes that element of the game less opaque than it usually is in Harvest Moon.

Bottom Line: If you like Harvest Moon, try this one and see if you like it!

Tantilizing Time Killer

This game is a good time killer. While the diss-proportionate RP to time available in a day (or even a period of time passing in which it restores automatically) is missing... and it's cut scenes can not be skipped making restart a pain in the... the game play itself and the concept of character relationships, economy, story and environmental management interwoven with the whole RPG style battle play makes this game highly enjoyable.

Not the most fun of games to look at so anyone watching it will be bored to tears. However, the story line is interesting and I loved playing this game. Love the farming system and weapons!
