Good

Good, but a bit unpolished

I came into this game having absolutely no clue whatsoever how the game of Rugby is played. However the game wonderfully made up for that by including an indepth tutorial about the majority of the gameplay mechanics. This was definately one of the highlights of the game.
The controls make absolute sense but are a little hard to get used to, but once you get in the groove they flow seemlessly.
The player animations are decent. Not as varied as say Madden or NCAA football but definatly well put together.
The anouncers are (like all sports games) repetitive and annoying though they are better than in other EA games (MADDEN)
AS for the gameplay, there are 3 major problems.
1. Its nearly impossible to make a drop kick from anywhere but the exact center of the field.
2. the non-player controlled member on your team seem rather stupid at times(such as not going after a loose ball
3. Its not really possible to win a ruck or maul that the other team started with an advantage, no matter how many player you commit.

One more note the Stadiums are REALLY generic. The only way I could tell if I was the home team or not was on the goal kicks there is a small team icon under the HUGE EA Sports "ScoreBoard"

The tournaments Playout very well and smoothly though if your any good you dont even need to win any of your games to advance past the pool stages because of the bonus points.

Additionally what I was glad to see was World Cup. Basically its a franchise mode where you pay your team hire better players and move up from Division 3 to the Elite League. HOWEVER there were some major glitches in the player hiring screen(push the wrong butten and your PS2 freezes)
and when you hire the players you cant really tell if your getting a better player or not so you end up spending a LOT of extra money rehiring and rehiring certain positions. At the end of my first season my teams salary was 900,000 when it should have been around 600,000. But I had hired a lot more players.

I may not be a big rugby fan but this game did a much better job of not totally failing like other lesser E.A sports titers(you know how you are). The graphics are not bad even if some animations are reused constantly threw out the game. All the teams are hear (i think). If you are a newcomer to the rugby game than just do this: Play the toutoryal, and try not to mess with New Zelind. The announcers are lame and the music track could have been expanded. Also playing co-op is like shaving with a machete covered with salt duing a earthquake. Thow in the end the game delivers a fantastic aperins that will make you feel pumped every time you score a gol. there is a learning curve as you get used to the control and game fundamentals, but it isn't that steep. if your a fan or just a average gamer than you will come to appreciate what the game has to offer.

This game is awesome for the rugby players and rugby fans out there. But it may be a little hard for people who don't know the game to pick up. But if you know the game, it's an awesome pick-up for the PS2 and is great to play with friends.
